Abtole was the original name of the old Rioja town of Autol, and is home to Bodegas Marques de Reinosa, who makes this excellent generous Rioja loaded with plenty of fruit and toasty vanillin characters from the 24 months aging in French and American oak.
Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Prominent liquorice top notes show excellent intensity out of the glass with ripe blackberry, vanillin oak, earthy mocha and spice scents ensuing. Medium to full in body with a plush feel, the palate is generously endowed with rich liquorice, black raspberry and toasty vanillin oak flavours. Mocha, earth and spice characters also chime in. Ripe polished tannins have a sturdy underbelly. Concludes long and opulent yet also slightly chewy.
Tasting Note:
This wine is intense garnet in colour. Aromas of juicy strawberries, cherries and blackberries are married with notes of vanilla and spices from oak ageing and subtle earthy hints from bottle age. The palate is exceptionally well-structured, with velvety tannins and a vibrant acidity which carries the complex flavours onto the lingering finish.
Food Match:
We have paired this with Seared Irish Steak with Healthy Sweet Potato Fries and Baked Mushroom
